Dominik Shine has been part of the Detroit Red Wings organization going all the way back to the end of the 2016-17 season when he first joined the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Though he has been in the organization, he had never had a full standard contract with the NHL club.

OTTAWA – First place in Group A is on the line as North American rivals USA and the Canada world juniors teams square off at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship on New Year’s Eve. Once a semi-annual tradition, the New Year’s Eve showdown between these two teams is back for the first time since 2016.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks made a splash earlier this year when they announced they had acquired the rights to top Russian prospect Ivan Ryabkin. There was still a lot of work to be done to make his arrival in the USHL a reality, however. Mission accomplished.

Despite this tournament dating back 49 years, the U.S. has only been competitive for the last half of that, but that competitiveness has provided iconic moments for both countries.

With the World Junior Championship off and running this week in Ottawa, a number of current and former USHL players are on display north of the border.

The World Junior Championship is one of the most high-profile showcases for top draft-eligible talent and this year offers an awful lot to see. Each of the projected top-three players in the draft are slated to compete in the 2025 World Juniors, and each should be seeing regular ice time, too.

Team USA won its record-extending 10th championship at the World Junior A Challenge after defeating Sweden 7-4 in the final. The U.S. squad, entirely made up of USHL stars, handed Sweden its first loss of the tournament in the final game after scoring four goals in the third period to close in on the tournament title.

The 2024 World Junior A Challenge kicks off Monday in Camrose, Alberta, marking the 16th edition of the event since its 2006 inception.
