FloHockey college hockey reporter Jordan McAlpine delivers power rankings every other week for Division I men's college hockey over the course of the 2024-25 season.
1. Denver 10-0-0 (Previous Ranking: 1)
Denver remains undefeated and is averaging an NCAA-best 4.9 goals per game, as the Pioneers prepare to open NCHC play at North Dakota. DU skated to a pair of 4-1 wins over Lindenwood last weekend and earned a pair of wins at Yale the week before, out-scoring Yale 11-1 in the series. Sam Harris (MTL) is riding a seven-game point streak and is coming off a three-goal weekend, and the sophomore has an NCAA-leading nine goals.
Matt Davis continued his hot play in net and picks up his first @theNCHC Goaltender of the Week honor after going 2-0 with a 1.01 GAA & .953 save% in the 2 games last weekend.

2. Boston College 7-1-0 (PR: 2)
The Eagles have won six straight and the last five have come against ranked foes – Western Michigan, St. Cloud State twice and Maine twice. BC earned a 3-2 win over Maine last Friday and followed it up with a 3-0 victory on Saturday, which yielded Jacob Fowler’s third shutout of the season. The Montreal pick is 7-1-0 with a .950 save percentage and 1.26 GAA to open his sophomore campaign.
3. Michigan State 7-1-0 (PR: 3)
Speaking of goaltending, the Spartans’ success starts with Trey Augustine (DET) and the sophomore continues to shine. Augustine made 51 of a possible 54 saves last weekend as MSU swept Ohio State to open Big Ten play. Augustine is now 6-1-0 overall with a .941 save percentage and 1.57 GAA. Isaac Howard (TBL) also had a goal and an assist in the series, giving him five goals and a team-leading 10 points.
4. Minnesota 9-1-0 (PR: 5)
Minnesota is coming off a road sweep of rival Wisconsin. The Gophers earned a pair of 3-2 wins, Friday’s coming in overtime, and have won eight straight, including four to open Big Ten play. Jimmy Snuggerud (STL) scored twice on Friday and picked up a pair of assists in Game 2, including a helper on Brodie Ziemer’s OT-winner. Ziemer (BUF) also had a three-point weekend (1-2-3).

5. Cornell 3-0-1 (PR: 8)
Cornell got off to a hot start with a sweep of North Dakota and a win over Brown last Saturday. The Big Red also suffered a shootout loss to Yale in between. Junior Dalton Bancroft had four points (3-1-4) last weekend and leads Cornell with those three goals, while sophomore Ryan Walsh (BOS) has a team-leading five points (2-3-5). Cornell’s next three games are against currently-ranked opponents too.
6. Maine 6-2-1 (PR: 6)
Maine was swept at Boston College last weekend but proved it could hang with one of the nation’s best teams. Maine held a 2-0 lead midway through the third period in Game 1, ultimately falling 3-2, and fought until the very end of Game 2, falling 3-0. Last Saturday’s game was still 1-0 midway through the third period too. At the same time, the Black Bears swept Merrimack the week prior and remain one of the nation’s top defensive teams, especially with goaltender Albin Boija.
7. Michigan 7-2-1 (PR: 13)
Michigan has put together back-to-back impressive weekends, sweeping Boston University in Beantown and opening Big Ten play with a sweep of Notre Dame. The Wolverines have won four straight and scored 16 goals in that stretch, nine of which have come from Evan Werner (5) and Jackson Hallum (4). Hallum (VGK) had a hat trick on Nov. 2.

8. Colorado College 8-0-0 (PR: 9)
CC remains undefeated as the Tigers swept Arizona State to open NCHC play. The Tigers are averaging 3.8 goals per game – which is tied for seventh in the country – and are allowing just 1.5, which is tied for the nation’s second-best mark. Kaidan Mbereko has carried the entire workload between the pipes while Klavs Veinbergs (2-1-3) and Max Burkholder (1-2-3) are both coming off three-point weekends.
9. Boston University 5-4-0 (PR: 4)
BU earned a road win at UMass-Lowell last time out, 5-2, which snapped a three-game skid. The Terriers have dropped four of their last six games too, starting with a 7-2 loss at North Dakota on Oct. 25, and were out-scored 27-19 in that stretch. However, it should be noted that all three opponents (UND, UML and Michigan) were ranked and many of their young players continue to contribute. The schedule doesn’t get any easier though as BU now heads to Maine.
10. North Dakota 5-4-0 (PR: 7)
North Dakota snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend in Duluth with a pair of wins. Brad Berry’s club has been hit hard by injuries in recent weeks – including Cameron Berg (NYI) and Andrew Strathmann (CBJ), and UND was even forced to shift Dane Montgomery back to defense. However, the Fighting Hawks responded with 11 goals from eight different skaters and a pair of conference-opening wins.
11. Western Michigan 5-1-0 (PR: 11)
Pat Ferschweiler’s club once again offers a steady mix of size, speed and skill, and several of WMU’s 10 freshmen have made an immediate impact. The Broncos average 3.8 goals per game and have won five of their first six, including a road sweep in Omaha to open NCHC play. Alex Bump (PHI) had four points – 2-2-4 – last weekend while sophomore forward Owen Michaels (4-1-5) is also off to a hot start.
12. Providence 6-1-2 (PR: 12)
Trevor Connelly (VGK) returned with a bang as the freshman forward racked up six points last weekend at Northeastern and delivered an overtime winner on Saturday. Connelly had missed the previous five games with an injury, yet Providence went 4-0-1 in that stretch and still has just one regulation loss. CC transfer Logan Will also has a five-game point streak and is tied for the team lead with nine points (4-5-9).

13. St. Cloud State 8-3-0 (PR: 10)
Freshman Austin Burnevik (ANA) has made an immediate impact and has a team-leading six goals – three of which came this past weekend – as SCSU swept Miami to get back in the win column. The Huskies were swept at home by Boston College to open the month, although SCSU went toe-to-toe with one of the nation’s best teams. Game 2 of that series was a 2-1 final and SCSU led halfway through the second period.
14. Minnesota State 7-4-1 (PR: 15)
Luke Strand’s squad is 5-1-1 over its last seven games and continues to get timely scoring and solid goaltending from Alex Tracy. MSU continues to find itself in close games too – their last six have been decided by two goals or less – yet they’re getting results. The Mavericks beat UND, swept Omaha and split with Bemidji State before going 1-0-1 last weekend against St. Thomas. MSU technically won the second game in a shootout too, although it’ll go down as a tie.
15. Ohio State 7-2-1 (PR: 14)
Ohio State suffered its first two losses at Michigan State and is in the midst of a six-game road trip, as OSU goes over a month between home games. The Buckeyes are already halfway to their 2023-24 win total, as OSU finished last season 14-20-4. However, you could argue they haven’t exactly had the toughest schedule and they’ll head to Lindenwood next.

16. Dartmouth 4-0-0 (PR: NR)
The Big Green are off to a 4-0-0 start and they’ll have a golden opportunity to make an early-season statement this weekend as they host Cornell on Friday. Dartmouth also hosts Colgate on Saturday before heading to Boston College. The Big Green are coming off a pair of wins at Quinnipiac and Princeton, the latter of which included a two-goal night from Sean Chisholm. The senior leads Dartmouth with four goals this season.
