The U.S. National Under-18 Team will be getting a bit of a boost from some outside help ahead of the CHL-USA Prospects Challenge to be played Tuesday and Wednesday in London and Oshawa, Ontario, respectively.

Des Moines Buccaneers forward Ben Kevan and Waterloo Black Hawks forward Matthew Lansing have been added to Team USA, which will otherwise be made up of current members of the National Team Development Program.

Both have made appearances with the U18 team this season, with Kevan playing in a pair of games against NCAA opponents and Lansing joining the U.S. squad for their recent U18 Five Nations Cup overseas.

Kevan is among the top draft-eligible players in the USHL this season, posting 15 points in 14 games so far. He had 57 points in 59 games as a U17 rookie in the league last season. Kevan has been projected as a high day-two pick.

Lansing had a strong showing at the 2024 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team, posting four goals in five games. He had one assist while with the U18s at the Five Nations and has six points through 16 games so far this season with Waterloo. Lansing has been projected as a mid-round pick for the 2025 NHL Draft.

They’ll join a U.S. squad that has been dealing with some injuries and other adversity this season.

Defeneseman Carter Amico is out for the season after sustaining a leg injury. Forward Will Horcoff is also unavailable for the showcase.

The good news, however, is that L.J. Mooney, a dynamic offensive talent, is expected to play in the series after missing 14 games with a lower-body injury. Mooney was the only U17 player to make the roster for the IIHF Men’s World Under-18 Championship last season.

Among the headline talent for Team USA will be forward Will Moore and defenseman Charlie Trethewey, each of whom are projected first-round picks at this stage of the season. Cole McKinney, Jack Murtagh, Mooney and a host of others are also draft-eligible talent expected to compete for Team USA in this unique event.

Moore is currently leading the U18 team with 17 points through 22 games. Tuesday's game in London will be an interesting one for Moore in particular as a U.S.-Canada dual citizen and a first-round draft pick of the London Knights, who are hosting the first game of the event. The 6-foot-2 forward is one of the top draft-eligible Americans for 2025 and is committed to Boston College.

Trethewey will lead USA's D corps which will surely miss Amico, who was coming into his own this season as a physical defenseman. Trethewey is more of the quick puck-moving type, but his numbers have dipped a bit this season. The Boston University commit has four goals and eight points through 22 games.

FloHockey's NHL Draft and prospects analyst Chris Peters will be on the ground at the CHL-USA Prospects Challenge covering each game, interviewing top NHL Draft-eligibles and providing analysis throughout the event.
