Four NHL picks and a number of 2025 draft prospects will don the Stars and Stripes this December as USA Hockey announced its 2024 U.S. Junior Select Team roster Tuesday afternoon.

The roster features 22 USHL players – 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies – and will compete in the World Junior A Challenge, which runs Dec. 9-15 in Camrose, Alberta.

"This is a tremendous event with an exceptional group of USHL players," said head coach Matt Smaby. "The opportunity to represent your country is an honor, one that our team won't take lightly. I'm excited to get to work and I'm absolutely thrilled to have been given the opportunity to coach for Team USA again this year."

Those four draft picks are forwards Will Zellers (Colorado, 3rd) of the Green Bay Gamblers, Lucas Van Vliet (Vegas, 7th) of the Dubuque Fighting Saints and Austin Baker (Detroit, 7th) of the Sioux Falls Stampede, along with defenseman Luke Osburn (Buffalo, 4th) of the Youngstown Phantoms.

A number of draft-eligible prospects will be on display too, headlined by forwards Ben Kevan (Des Moines), Mason Moe (Madison) and Ryker Lee (Madison), all of which received B ratings on Central Scouting’s Preliminary 2025 Watch List – which was released late last month.

Jacob Rombach (Lincoln) also received a B-rating and will be one of several intriguing prospects on the U.S. blue line, alongside Fargo’s Sam Laurila and Finn McLaughlin, and Madison’s John Stout. Laurila currently leads all USHL defensemen with 14 points.

Kam Hendrickson (Omaha) and Caleb Heil (Madison) are also considered two of the top goaltenders from the 2006 birth year. Heil is also the lone returner from last year’s WJAC team, which placed third last December.

Team USA has won the event nine times since its inception in 2006, the latest coming in 2022.

The U.S. opens the WJAC on Dec. 9 against Canada East at 5 p.m. ET. and will play three preliminary-round games. The full roster and schedule can be found here.
