Idaho Steelheads Celebrate Brabham Cup Championship
The Idaho Steelheads clinched the Brabham Cup as 2022-23 ECHL regular-season champions thanks to their franchise-record 53rd win of the season Saturday night.
Adam Scheel made 36 saves in a 1-0 shutout over the Kansas City Mavericks to help the club capture its second-ever regular-season crown since joining the ECHL.
Idaho is in the midst of an historic season that has them chasing down a number of league records after smashing most of their franchise marks. Their 53 wins rank third all-time in a single season in ECHL history. They're also tied for the league record with 30 home victories. The shutout Scheel recorded was the 11th by a Steelheads goalie this season, which is tied for second most in ECHL history.
With the Brabham-clinching victory, Idaho has secured home ice throughout the Kelly Cup Playoffs as they look to add more hardware to their trophy case in 2023.
