MADISON, Wis. – Freshman defenseman Josh Ess scored 33 seconds into the game, and Wisconsin (8-5-1, 3-2-0 Big Ten) never looked back in its 7-3 victory over Michigan (6-4-1, 2-2-1 Big Ten) on Friday at the Kohl Center.
Game Notes:
· Wisconsin scored first in a game for the 11th time in 14 contests this season and improved to 8-2-1 in those games.
· Josh Ess’ goal marked his first career goal as a Badger.
· Each Badger line scored at least one goal, and the defense chipped in with a goal of its own.
· Wisconsin’s seven goals scored, as well as its 26 blocked shots, were both season highs.
· Goaltender Kyle Hayton made 34 saves to improve to 7-4-1 this season.
· UW went 1-for-4 on the power play, and killed 4-of-5 penalties.
· Wisconsin and Michigan meet again Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Kohl Center, after the two teams meet earlier in the day in football a mile west at Camp Randall Stadium.
