The 2025 AHL Calder Cup stage is set after teams have completed their season's final games, and now the gauntlet begins.

Twenty three teams have worked all year long to make it up to this point, including Laval Rocket, winners of the regular season title; Hershey Bears, two-time defending champions; Coachella Valley Firebirds, consecutive runner-up; and many other great teams.

Starting on April 22, the two-month grind to become champion begins, as winning the Calder Cup only comes around once every season.

Once the puck drops during the Calder Cup, everything up until that point has no effect, as teams and strategies are different, competition rises, and the pressure is higher than ever before.

Why Is It Called The Calder Cup?

• The Calder Cup is named after the first-ever NHL president, Frank Calder, who played a massive role in the eventual founding of the AHL.

How Does The AHL Playoff Format Work?

• All teams playing in the first round are in a best-of-three series.
• The division semifinals and finals are then decided in a best of five.
• Finally, the conference and Calder Cup finals will be the best of seven.
