A number of NHL draft picks will hit the Enterprise Center ice this weekend, including Zeev Buium, Cole Hutson and Hampton Slukynsky, among others. Chris Peters has more on what fans can expect from the trio and many other top prospects.
As for the teams themselves, there’s a number of storylines and numbers to follow. Here’s what you need to know before the puck drops.
Boston University
The Question: Will Yegorov’s success continue?
Playoff hockey and a hot goaltender… A tradition like no other. However, the Terriers have benefitted from their play between the pipes since late-January, as Mikhail Yegorov burst onto the NCAA scene. The New Jersey pick is 10-5-1 with a 2.04 GAA and .931 save percentage, which ranks seventh among NCAA goalies. BU scored 11 goals in front of him in Toledo, but they’ll need another solid showing between the pipes.
Player To Watch: Cole Hutson, Fr., D (WSH)
Hutson has been one of the nation’s top freshmen and it’s no secret he’s a weapon on the blue line. Hutson had two goals and four assists in the Toledo Regional, giving him 14-32-46 on the season. That leads all NCAA freshmen and is tied for second among NCAA defensemen.
Number To Know: 13.5
BU averages 13.5 penalty minutes per game, which is the most in the country. The Terriers were handed six penalties against Ohio State and three against Cornell, but they finished their regional 8-for-9 on the penalty kill.
Denver
The Question: Can the Pioneers repeat?
Denver won its NCAA-leading 10th NCAA title last April at Xcel Energy Center, skating to a 2-1 win over BU in overtime. There’s a chance the two could meet again on Saturday. DU returns 16 players from last year’s championship club and that experience could prove invaluable. At the end of the day, the Pioneers are in good hands with David Carle standing behind the bench.
Player To Watch: Jack Devine, Sr., F (FLA)
Devine has just one point over his past three games and is currently riding a six-game goal drought. However, that lack of production has been a rarity for the Illinois native, and Devine has been one of DU’s go-to forwards all year. The senior has an NCAA-leading 57 points, 10 multi-point games and could be due for a breakout performance.
Number To Know: 29.1
Denver’s power play has converted on 46 of its 158 opportunities this season and its 29.1% conversion rate ranks third in the NCAA. Sam Harris (MTL) paces the Pioneers with 11 power-play tallies, which also leads the NCAA.

Penn State
The Question: Can Penn State complete its second-half surge?
It would’ve been tough to imagine Penn State making a Big Ten Tournament run in December, let alone an NCAA Tournament run. The Nittany Lions got off to a 0-8-0 start in conference play and were struggling to get much going, yet here they stand as one of the nation’s final four teams. Penn State is 15-4-4 since Jan. 1 and has been one of the nation’s best stories.
Player To Watch: Matt DiMarsico, So., F
While Aiden Fink has gotten much of the Penn State attention, justifiably so, DiMarsico is second on the roster in goals (17) and has been on a tear of late. The sophomore had three goals in the Allentown Regional and has scored in six of his past seven games, racking up 7-3-10 in the seven-game stretch. He also netted the eventual game-winner in both regional wins.
Number To Know: 3
Penn State has scored three or more goals in 20 or its past 23 games, which dates back to Jan. 1. The Nittany Lions have out-scored their opponents 138-117 this season, including 86-65 in that stretch. Their 138 goals rank fifth nationally.
Western Michigan
The Question: Is this Western Michigan's year?
The Broncos have looked like a contender since the fall and have felt like a team of destiny. Western Michigan won the NCHC regular-season title, earning 57 of 72 points, and followed it up with a NCHC Frozen Faceoff title. They’ve consistently been one of the top teams in the Pairwise and are making the program’s first Frozen Four appearance. Now can they finish the job?
Player To Watch: Alex Bump, So., F (PHI)
Pat Ferschweiler labeled Bump as a 'college hockey superstar' and the sophomore has shown why. Bump has fired 236 shots at opposing goaltenders – 45 more than the next closest player – and has showcased his shot, speed and offensive instincts all year. Bump’s 23 goals and 47 points both lead the WMU roster, and he’s scored three times against Denver this season.
Number To Know: 4
Western Michigan averages 4.0 goals per game, which is tied with Denver for the NCAA lead. The Broncos earned a 4-3 win over Denver on March 22 too, lifting WMU to a conference tournament title. And if you were looking for another tie-in, the Broncos are the tournament’s highest remaining seed at No. 4 overall.
