Penn State hockey and Boston U have taken different paths throughout the season, but both find themselves in the 2025 Frozen Four and are in others' way from a National Championship Game appearance.

Boston University is making its 25th Frozen Four appearance by winning the Toledo regional. It defeated Ohio State in the first round, 8-3, after scoring five goals in the third period after the game was tied when the second period ended, and Cornell with a 3-2 overtime win.

The Nittany Lions are making their first NCAA tournament appearance, and they are making the most of it by making the Frozen Four. They dominated the Allentown regionals' No. 1 seed, Maine, 5-1, and defeated UConn, 3-2, in overtime, exactly how their opponent, Boston U, clinched its Frozen Four spot.

Boston University hockey hasn't won in a long time and hopes to return to glory. At the same time, Penn State seeks to continue its improbable run and eventually bring home the program's first title in history.

St. Louis will host the 2025 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four at Enterprise Center, the home of the NHL’s St. Louis Blues.

How Does The NCAA Hockey Tournament Work?

• At the beginning of the tournament, teams will compete across four regional sites in single-elimination games, with four teams standing at the end.
• There are two games in the regional semifinals between these teams for a chance at the regional finals.
• The winners of the four sites will then advance to the Frozen Four in St. Louis, MO.
• From there, the two winners will compete for the grand prize in a national championship.
