Hockey fans can rejoice as the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey tournament, which starts on March 27. Teams will battle it out for a spot in the Frozen Four and, eventually, a national championship.

On March 23, fans learned which 16 teams were selected for the tournament, featuring last season's Denver men's hockey champions and multiple other former champions.

For the first three days of the tournament, four teams will compete in four different regionals (Allentown, Fargo, Manchester, and Toledo) to punch their ticket to the Enterprise Center in Saint Louis, MO.

Before each team hits the ice, here is one thing to know about all 16 teams.

1. Boston College Hockey

  • The Eagles are the No. 1 overall seed for the third time in the NCAA tournament. In the last two seasons, they had that top seed (2012 and 2024), and the team made the championship game, winning in 2012.

2. Michigan State Hockey

  • Michigan State is making its 29th NCAA Tournament appearance and is a No. 1 seed for the second straight season.

3. Maine Hockey

  • If the Maine Black Bears win the title this season, it will be the third in program history since they won the last in 1999.

4. Western Michigan Hockey

  • The Broncos won the most games this regular season with 30 wins and won their first-ever NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship in program history.

5. Penn State Hockey

  • The team is in the tournament for the fifth time in the past in the last season and is the fourth seed for the first time.

6. Minnesota Hockey

  • Minnesota is making its 42nd appearance in the NCAA tournament, which is the most of any program.

7. UConn Hockey

  • This is the first ever NCAA Tournament appearance with an at-large bid.

8. Boston University Hockey

  • Boston University is looking to make the Frozen Four for the  third straight time.

9. Providence Hockey

  • The Friars are making its first NCAA Tournament in six years, where they made the Frozen Four in 2019.

10. Denver Hockey

  • If Denver wins the national championship, it will be the third title in four years.

11. Ohio State Hockey

  • Ohio State hasn't reached the Frozen Four since 2018, and it will be their 11th appearance in the NCAA tournament this season.

12. UMass Hockey

  • The Minutemen are seeking to win its second national championship; the program won its first title in 2021.

13. Quinnipiac Hockey

  • Quinnipiac has won five consecutive regular-season championships and has won nine out of 12 years.

14. Minnesota State Hockey

  • Minnesota State has allowed the least number of goals, averaging 1.47 goals allowed in the season.

15. Cornell Hockey

  • Cornell will make its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

16. Bentley Hockey

  • Bentley won the Atlantic Hockey championships this first season and was ranked in the USCHO poll.
