What Teams Made The 2025 NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament?
UPDATE: FULL BRACKET HERE
Here are the 16 teams that have reached the NCAA tournament.
- Boston College
- Michigan State
- Maine
- Western Michigan
- Minnesota
- UConn
- Boston University
- Providence
- Denver
- Ohio State
- UMass
- Penn State
- Quinnipiac

While there is a set order of seeds, the regionals do not always go by straight bracket seeding. The selection committee has a series of parameters it uses to place teams in specific regionals.
Among the criteria, the committee attempts to avoid opponents from the same conference in the first round. Additionally, schools hosting a regional will be placed in that region. This year, Penn State is the host school for the regional in Allentown, Pa., and will be placed there. Other considerations including travel distance and what would be best for attendance are also considered when creating each regional bracket.
What Teams Received Automatic Bids To The NCAA Hockey Tournament?
Conference tournament champions for each of the six conferences in NCAA men’s hockey receive an automatic bid to the national tournament.
Tournament Champions
- Hockey East: Maine
- NCHC: Western Michigan
- Big Ten: Michigan State
- ECAC: Cornell
- CCHA: Minnesota State
- Atlantic Hockey America: Bentley
What Team Is The No. 1 Seed In The NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament?
For the second straight year, Boston College is the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA men’s hockey tournament. BC won the Hockey East regular-season title, but was bounced from the tournament quarterfinals. Despite that, the Eagles was No. 1 in the Pairwise rankings, which determines the NCAA field.
The Eagles are led by Hobey Baker candidate and the top goal scorer in the NCAA Ryan Leonard (WSH) and superstar sophomore goalie Jacob Fowler (MTL), who has a .940 save percentage so far this season.
UConn Makes The NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament For The First Time
UConn has had a remarkable season and their selection to the 2025 NCAA tournament is a historic one. This is the first time the Huskies have ever been to the dance. Head coach Mike Cavanaugh was named Hockey East’s coach of the year and has gotten the Huskies close before, but now they can finally take this gigantic leap for their program.
They are one of six Hockey East teams playing in the tournament in what has been a special season for the conference.
Bentley Earns First-Ever Berth To NCAA Men's Hockey Tournament
In a shocking Atlantic Hockey America Championship Game seen right here on FloHockey, Bentley erased an early 2-0 deficit to Holy Cross with a three-goal second period. They scored three more in the third and earned a 6-3 win over the Crusaders. The win gave Bentley its first ever trip to the NCAA tournament in Division I men's hockey.

Who Were The Last Teams Out Of The Tournament?
Automatic bids often come at the expense of teams that were in the top 16 of the Pairwise rankings. With the ECAC Champion and Atlantic Hockey champions coming from outside of the top 16, that meant that the last two teams out of the tournament were Michigan and Arizona State.
The only of those two teams that entered conference championship weekend with a chance for an at-large berth was Michigan. However, once Quinnipiac was knocked out of the ECAC tournament, that meant one of Cornell or Clarkson would get in, pushing the Wolverines out.
Meanwhile, Arizona State finished 16th in the Pairwise, despite an impressive first season in the NCHC that saw them finish second in the challenging conference. A few non-conference losses ultimately cost them their spot. When they lost to defending national champion Denver in the NCHC semifinals, that effectively ended their season despite coming agonizingly close to a spot in the dance.
