The field will be narrowed down to the "Hobey Hat Trick" and the award will be presented on April 11 on the day off between the national semifinals and national championship game at the 2025 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four in St. Louis.
The race for the Hobey has probably never been tighter at the top. There isn't a runaway winner this time around like we've seen in recent years. It will likely take the next few weeks to sort things out at the very top as we see if anyone can separate themselves and take college hockey's top individual honor.
Here’s a look at the finalists for the Hobey in alphabetical order:
Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalists
- Zeev Buium, D, Sophomore, Denver
- Jack Devine, F, Senior, Denver
- Aiden Fink, F, Sophomore, Penn State
- Mac Gadowsky, F, Sophomore, Army West Point
- Isaac Howard, F, Junior, Michigan State
- Ryan Leonard, F, Sophomore, Boston College
- Ayrton Martino, F, Senior, Clarkson
- Liam McLinskey, F, Senior, Holy Cross
- Jimmy Snuggerud, F, Junior, Minnesota
- Alex Tracy, G, Junior, Minnesota State
Zeev Buium, D, Denver (MIN)
Somehow not in the top 10 last year, Buium is in the mix in his sophomore campaign after putting up extremely similar numbers to his rookie effort. Buium is tied for the top scoring defenseman in the NCAA with 42 points so far. He also helped lead Team USA to its second straight gold medal at the World Juniors, continuing his seemingly annual tradition of winning tournaments.
Here's the thing about Zeev Buium .

Jack Devine, F, Denver (FLA)
The top scorer in the country with 54 points, Devine has been among the most productive players in college hockey over the last two seasons. He leads the NCAA with 41 assists, nine more than the next closest players – which includes his teammate Buium.
Aiden Fink, F, Penn State (NSH)
Penn State is on the NCAA Tournament bubble, but they wouldn’t be close at all without the high-scoring Fink. The Nittany Lions sophomore is among the top scorers in the NCAA with 52 points including 23 goals. He has 15 more points than his next closest teammate and was a unanimous All-Big Ten Selection.
Mac Gadowsky, D, Army
Atlantic Hockey America’s defenseman of the year, Gadowsky is tied with Buium for most points by a blueliner in the NCAA. No defenseman has more goals than Gadowsky’s 16. The Black Knights’ season is over, but it would have been sooner if Gadowsky didn’t show out with seven points in five games during the conference postseason.

Isaac Howard, F, Michigan State (TBL)
The Big Ten Player of the Year, Howard spent a good chunk of the season as the NCAA’s top scorer. Currently tied for fourth in points per game average with 1.34 heading into the Big Ten Championship game, Howard has been a dynamic presence all season for the high-flying Spartans. He also is tied for third in the country with 24 goals.
Ryan Leonard, F, Boston College (WSH)
The Hockey East Player of the Year, Leonard is the NCAA’s top goal scorer with 29 this season. Nine of those goals have been game-winners as Leonard has had a penchant for late-game heroics all year. He captained Team USA to the gold medal at the World Junior Championship and has been a dominant scoring presence all season. He is tied for eighth in the country with 47 points and is second in the NCAA with 181 shots on goal.

Ayrton Martino, F, Clarkson (DAL)
Currently fifth in the NCAA with 49 points, Martino was a driving force behind a Clarkson squad that won 23 games this season and is pushing for an ECAC championship. He’s outscored his next closest teammate by 16 points and has 13 more goals than any other player on the Golden Knights roster. Meanwhile, he’s scored 24 goals on just 80 shots on net for a staggering 30% shooting percentage.
Liam McLinskey, F, Holy Cross
The only player to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards in Atlantic Hockey history, McLinskey has been a driver in a historic season for Holy Cross. He is one of just four players to cross the 50-point mark so far this season with 51. He has 23 goals this season and has been a dominant power forward for the Crusaders as they won the regular-season title and will play for an AHA championship this weekend. McLinskey is going to be among the most hotly pursued NHL free agents this spring.

Jimmy Snuggerud, F, Minnesota (STL)
Eschewing offers to turn pro after last season, Snuggerud went back for another run at Minnesota and made the most of it. He has 22 goals and 49 points in leading the Gophers to one of the best seasons in the country. The Blues first-rounder is tied for fifth in the country in scoring and will hope to get the Gophers back to the national championship game with some unfinished business to attend to.
Alex Tracy, G, Minnesota State
The only goalie to make the top 10, Tracy has had a remarkable season. With a .946 save percentage in 36 games, no goalie has touched those numbers. He also has a 1.41 goals-against average and put up five shutouts this season. Tracy was named the CCHA Player of the Year and will look to follow in the footsteps of the last goalie to win the Hobey, Minnesota State’s Dryden McKay.
