First-round pick Brendan Brisson is on his way to the New York Rangers organization.

The Vegas Golden Knights sent the 23-year-old forward to the Rangers along with a 2025 third-round pick for NHL veteran forward Reilly Smith.

Brisson’s production had tumbled this season with the Henderson Silver Knights as a third-year pro. After scoring 18 and 19 goals in each of his first two seasons with the Silver Knights, the 2020 first-round pick had managed just 5-14-19 in 45 games this season.

The Rangers have not yet announced officially whether Brisson will be assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack. If he does, the Wolf Pack have fallen nine points below the Atlantic Division playoff line. The Wolf Pack could use any and all offensive help that Brisson may be able to provide if he does regain his scoring touch. They rank 26th in the AHL with 2.86 goals per game, and their power play sits 29th.

Hartford's next game is a home match-up with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday.

Brisson joined the Silver Knights late in the 2021-22 season following a standout season at the University of Michigan, where he had 21-21-42 in 38 games. After turning pro and debuting with Henderson, he had 3-5-8 in seven games. During his time with the Golden Knights, he played 24 NHL games (2-6-8), including nine this season.

Brisson is the second Henderson forward to depart the organization leading up to Friday’s NHL trade deadline. Vegas sent AHL All-Star Grigori Denisenko to the Nashville Predators for future considerations on Feb. 18. Despite a recent surge, the Silver Knights remain stuck last in the Pacific Division, 10 points out of a playoff spot.
