As the only NCAA Division II conference in men’s hockey, the NE10 title always carries a bit more weight for the winner.
Saint Anselm has clearly been the class of the conference with a 16-3-1 record and 50 points in the standings – 15 clear of second-place and conference final foe Saint Michael’s.
The Hawks have been led by senior Hunter Brackett, who has 20 goals and 40 points. He was named NE10 Player of the Year earlier this week. His 20 goals are the most by a Saint Anselm player in more than a decade. Brackett, who is the nephew of Minnesota Wild director of amateur scouting Judd Brackett, was named a semifinalist for the Joe Concannon Award, which is presented annually to the top American-born Division II or III hockey player in New England.

On the other side, Saint Michael’s boasts two all-conference selections on defense including David Ciancio and Case Kantgias. Additionally, head coach Damian DiGiulian received the Lance “Duke” Brady Award as NE10’s Coach of the Year.
When the Purple Knights square off against the Hawks in the final, they’ll be seeking their first win of the season. Saint Anselm won all four previous meetings between the two clubs with at least a two-goal cushion in each victory.
Saint Michael’s punched their ticket to the final with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Southern New Hampshire in the conference semifinals. Meanwhile, Saint Anselm picked up a narrow 3-2 win over an Assumption squad that had handed the Hawks two of their three conference losses earlier in the season.
Saint Anselm rides a seven-game winning streak into the championship showdown and will have the benefit of home ice with the game slated for Sullivan Arena in Manchester, N.H.
