Cecconi, who will report to Ontario, went to the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals with the Rochester Americans. Minnesota had signed him to a one-year contract last July 1 after two seasons in Rochester. The 27-year-old also played parts of five seasons with the Texas Stars and has 326 games of NHL experience. In 51 games with Iowa, he had 2-12-14; one of those goals came Jan. 12 at Ontario. Before turning pro in 2019 with Texas, Cecconi played four seasons at the University of Michigan and won a Big-10 championship in 2016. He offers size (6-foot-3, 216 pounds) and a reliable defensive presence to the Ontario line-up.

Ontario (31-15-2-1) has a one-point edge on Calgary for the leads in both the Pacific Division and the Western Conference. The Reign visit Colorado for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday.
Madden, the son of long-time NHL forward John Madden, was in his fifth season with the Reign and had 8-17-25 in 47 games this season. The Vancouver Canucks selected him in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft before sending him to Los Angeles in Feb. 2020. The 25-year-old had a 20-goal season with the Reign in 2022-23 and followed that effort up with a career-high 34 points (15-19-34) last season. Minnesota has assigned him to Iowa.

For Iowa, the hope is that Madden can lend help to an offense that started Wednesday ranked 29th in the AHL at 2.69 goals per game. The club has managed just seven goals in its past four games, dropping three of those four decisions, and the Iowa power play is last in the AHL. The move will also replenish Iowa’s forward depth with Liam Öhgren and Devin Shore remaining on recall with Minnesota, and forward Sammy Walker having been sent to Utah in a trade Feb. 3.
Iowa (17-30-3-1) has fallen 10 points below the Central Division playoff line. The club also added veteran forward Nathan Noel on a professional tryout deal; he has 1-3-4 in 24 ECHL games between the Indy Fuel and the Iowa Heartlanders. The Wild will host Chicago on Wednesday night before opening a four-game road trip Friday at Milwaukee.
Iowa will host Ontario on March 22-23 to wrap up the teams’ season series.
