Team USA's junior hockey team added their second win on Saturday afternoon against Latvia, tallying five goals and only letting one get past goalie Hampton Slukynsky. 

The two faced off in Ottawa at the Canadian Tire Centre on December 28 in the preliminary round of the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship is set to showcase the next generation of hockey stars, with nations from around the globe competing for the coveted gold medal.

Team USA defeated Germany 10-4 on Thursday, Dec. 26 before taking on the Latvian team.

The win bodes well for Team USA after home favorite Canada lost in an extended shootout round that ended with Latvia on top on Friday night.

In the Saturday afternoon contest just 18 hours after Latvia's shocking win over Canada in a shooutout on Friday, December 27, Team USA was able to take an early lead and turn it into their second win before taking on Finland on Sunday.

A goal from Danny Nelson just two minutes into the game kickstarted USA's offense. After a high sticking penalty was called on Daniels Serkins in the second period, captain Ryan Leonard forced the power play goal with assists from James Hagens and Gabe Perreault.

Later in the second period, USA took the three-goal lead after Zeev Buium netted his first of the tournament.

In the last period, Davids Livsics scored the lone goal for Latvia off of a second chance from a Dmitrijs Dilevka breakaway shot attempt that went wide.

The final nail in the coffin was a goal by USA forward Max Plante, who tallied his first after earning an assist in the game earlier this week against Germany.

The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship will air on TSN and RDS on television in Canada. The tournament will be streamed on TSN+ in Canada, as well. 

In the United States, NHL Network will be the television home of the World Junior Championship.
