AHL Free Stream Game Of The Week: Bakersfield Condors at San Diego Gulls
The Bakersfield Condors meet the San Diego Gulls this Saturday in the FloHockey AHL Game of the Week (9:00 p.m. ET).
A pair of Pacific Division clubs in need of points meet when the Bakersfield Condors head south to see the host San Diego Gulls this Saturday in the FloHockey AHL Game of the Week (9:00 p.m. ET).
Bakersfield’s (11-11-3-1) five-game point streak came to an end Friday night with a 4-3 loss at home to Coachella Valley. Despite having gone on a 4-0-1-0 surge going into the holiday break, that defeat to the Firebirds left the Condors stranded three points under the Pacific Division playoff line. After this weekend, the Condors will play six of their following eight games on the road.

The Gulls’ (8-16-1-2) broke a four-game losing streak Friday night, pulling out a 4-3 battle with the Ontario Reign in the shootout at Pechanga Arena. They have struggled to find traction at home with a 5-5-0-2 record. This match-up with the Condors opens a run of 10 of 14 games on home ice for the Gulls stretching to beyond the AHL All-Star break in February. They are 10 points out of a Pacific Division playoff spot.

Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton Oilers) – What to Watch For
Rookie forward Matthew Savoie headlines the Bakersfield roster.
Savoie, who turns 21 on New Year’s Day, ranks second in team scoring with 8-10-18 in 26 games and has had back-to-back games in which he registered a goal and an assist. Edmonton acquired the forward in the offseason from the Buffalo Sabres in a multi-player trade. Last season in the WHL with Wenatchee and Moose Jaw, he had 30-41-71 in just 34 games before providing 10-14-24 in 19 playoff games as the Warriors advanced to the Memorial Cup. He originally went to the Sabres as the ninth pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Acquired from the Montreal Canadiens on Dec. 6 in a deal for defenseman Noel Hoefenmayer, forward Jacob Perreault has found early success being back in the Pacific Division with the Condors. Perreault, 22, spent four seasons with San Diego after going 27th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft to the parent Anaheim Ducks. In six games with the Condors since that trade, he has 1-4-5.
Now in his fifth season with Bakersfield, goaltender Olivier Rodrigue continues to make his case for future duty in Edmonton. The 2018 second-round pick is 8-6-2 | 2.63 | .920 in 16 games with the Condors this season.
San Diego Gulls (Anaheim Ducks) – What to Watch For
Having missed the Calder Cup Playoffs the past two seasons, the Gulls are a part of Anaheim’s ongoing organization-wide rebuilding effort. Matt McIlvane arrived last season as the Gulls’ fourth head coach in as many seasons and has been tasked by the Ducks with trying to bring along a very young and inexperienced group in San Diego.
One of those players is 20-year-old rookie forward Yegor Sidorov, a 2023 third-round pick who has provided ample offense after scoring 50 goals last season for the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades. With 8-10-18 in 27 games for the Gulls, he has moved into a tie for the team scoring lead with fellow rookie Sam Colangelo. His shootout tally Friday gave the Gulls their win against the rival Reign.
Colangelo, who is 23, also came to San Diego as another Ducks draft pick who had a standout 2023-24 season. His 24-19-43 in 38 games as a transfer to Western Michigan earned him a Hobey Baker Award nomination.
The Ducks are also counting on youth to develop on the San Diego blue line, beginning with second-year pro Tristan Luneau. The 2022 second-round selection starred with the QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques in 2022-23, posting 20-63-83 to win the Emile Bouchard Trophy as the league’s top defenseman as well as winning a spot on the QMJHL First All-Star Team. However, his first pro season was a trying one. He split time between Anaheim and San Diego and then went to the IIHF World Junior Championship, where a knee infection prevented him from participating and ultimately ended his season. He has a goal and six assists in 16 games but has been out of action since Dec. 16 with a lower-body injury that is day-to-day.
