Beckett Sennecke, Zayne Parekh Added To Canada's Selection Camp
Top prospects Beckett Sennecke and Zayne Parekh have been added to Canada's selection camp roster as injury replacements.
The outcry over some of the player omitted from Canada's roster will be quieted somewhat after Hockey Canada announced additions to their selection camp to replace injured players.

Calgary Flames first-rounder Zayne Parekh was added to the camp late last week when it was revealed that Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Harrison Brunicke was not medically cleared to participate in Canada's selection camp in Ottawa. Monday morning, it was revealed that Toronto Maple Leafs top prospect Easton Cowan would not participate on ice in the selection camp as a precautionary measure. While he is still in the mix to make Team Canada and would be a lock to be part of the roster if healthy, Sennecke was added to participate in camp.

Parekh won the Memorial Cup with Saginaw last season. The highly offensive defenseman has 34 points in 25 games for the Spirit so far in 2024-25. He was perhaps one of the biggest surprise omissions from Canada's roster which was announced early last week.
Sennecke, the No. 3 pick from last year's draft, was less of a surprising omission only because Canada went fairly heavy on 19-year-old forwards. That said, the last week-plus of Sennecke's season has been undeniably incredible. The 18-year-old winger has 14 points over his last four games with the Oshawa Generals, including a six-point effort against Kingston, followed by a five point effort against Ottawa.

With Cowan on the shelf for camp, you'd have to think Sennecke's last week reminded Hockey Canada's decision makers that they have a chance to see if Sennecke can stay hot and steal a spot on the roster. As a 6-foot-4 forward with immense skill, you'd have to think he has a chance to make a strong case.
Hockey Canada's camp begins in Ottawa Tuesday. Team Canada's selection camp players will be involved in two exhibition games with a USports All-Star Team on Thursday and Friday before cuts are announced.
