West Coast Games Drop Puck On Late Night Slate

Although there's already been eight games wrapped up today, there still remains five more games in the western half of the United States. The Calgary Wranglers were one of two teams in the AHL with five wins going into today and were down 2-0 against the Colorado Eagles at the end of the first period.

Toronto Marlies Complete Comeback With Shootout Win

After being down 0-2 against the Belleville Senators, the Toronto Marlies completed the comeback and tied the game after scoring two goals within 3 minutes halfway through the second period. A goal from Oskar Pettersson gave the Senators the lead once again and Nick Abruzzese scored within 30 seconds after the start of the third.

After a 4-3 advantage during overtime, the Marlies were unable to convert and pushed the game into a shootout. Logan Shaw scored on Toronto's third attempt and three saves from Akhtyamov ended up giving them the win and completing the comeback.

What are the AHL overtime rules?

According to theAHL.com:

"During the regular season, the American Hockey League plays a five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime period following games tied after regulation. If neither team scores, the game advances to a shootout, with each team getting three attempts. If the score remains tied, the shootout progresses to sudden-death rounds until a winner is determined.

In the Calder Cup Playoffs, teams play 20-minute overtime periods at full strength until a goal is scored."

Regulation Time Runs Out, Two Games Head Into Overtime

AHL Power Rankings Top 10: Hershey Bears Still The Team To Beat

FloHockey writer Patrick Williams put together his early season rankings for the top 10 AHL teams. Here's a bit of what he had to say about the 6th-ranked Milwaukee Admirals.

"Few things in hockey are as reliable as the Admirals and success even though head coach Karl Taylor has had to manage a fairly significant amount of turnover after his club reached the Western Conference Finals the past two seasons. One question involves the Nashville Predators. If the parent club continues to struggle, how long until a call is put in for reinforcements from Milwaukee?"
