New York Rangers Enforcer Matt Rempe Sent To AHL Hartford
The New York Rangers have sent young enforcer Matt Rempe to the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL after just two NHL appearances this season.
After becoming one of the NHL’s top second-half stories last season, Matt Rempe finds himself back in the AHL once again.
The New York Rangers assigned the 6-foot-9, 255-pound forward to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Thursday night following a 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers at Madison Square Garden. Rempe, 22, had only dressed for two of the Rangers’ first seven games of the season and had only average 5:39 per game.

Rempe quickly made a name for himself in New York by posting 71 penalty minutes in 17 games while fighting the likes of Matt Martin, Nic Deslauriers, and Ryan Reaves, among others. The Martin bout, Rempe’s first NHL scrap, came in the Rangers-New York Islanders NHL Stadium Series Game last Feb. 18.

Rempe had made his NHL debut that afternoon in front of 79,980 at MetLife Stadium, the third-largest crowd in league history, and he quickly became a Rangers fan favorite as well as a top story across the NHL. He also made 11 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Rangers reached the Eastern Conference Final against Florida before losing in six games.
Rempe, a 2020 sixth-round pick by the Rangers, had spent the first season-and-a-half of his pro career with Hartford, where he played 96 regular-season games. He had 14 goals and eight assists to go with 183 penalty minutes for the Wolf Pack.
The Wolf Pack have a pair of home games this weekend beginning with tonight’s contest against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. With head coach Grant Potulny taking over this season, the Wolf Pack are off to a 2-1-0-1 start.
Rempe’s arrival means that the Wolf Pack now have 16 forwards. However, Brennan Othmann, who had a 21-goal rookie season with Hartford, missed the team’s most recent game last Sunday at Bridgeport, and his status for this weekend is not known.
