As hard as it may be to believe, the NHL preseason calendar begins next week and with it comes the annual rookie tournaments.

Thirty of the NHL’s 32 teams will be participating in some type of competition with rosters featuring signed and drafted prospects, as well as undrafted or unsigned invitees to training camp.

Some of the tournaments are rather big, featuring as many as eight teams, while several events feature no more than two teams.

To help you find the prospect event for your favorite team, as well as when they’ll be playing, FloHockey put together this handy guide of every single prospect event in one place. 

When Are The NHL Rookie Tournaments?

The NHL rookie tournaments will begin as early as Friday, Sept. 13 and conclude no later than Monday, Sept. 16. 

Most games will be played in NHL practice facilities, or at neutral sites like Penticton, B.C., and Traverse City, Michigan. Montreal, meanwhile will host two games in its NHL arena, Bell Centre.

There will be 30 teams participating in this year's events. Only the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals prospects are not scheduled to appear in any games over the week.

2024 Prospects Challenge Buffalo

The 2024 Prospects Challenge will feature prospects from the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins. All games will be played at the LECOM HarborCenter in Buffalo, N.Y.

The 2024 NHLRookie Faceoff will feature prospects from the Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken, Utah Hockey Club and Vegas Golden Knights. All games will be played at the Toyota Sports Performance Center in El Segundo, Calif.

Tom Kurvers Prospect Challenge St. Louis

The Tom Kurvers Prospects Challenge is played in honor of the late Minnesota Wild Assistant GM and former NHL player. This year's event will feature the St. Louis Blues, Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks. All games will be played at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Haights, Mo.

2024 Young Stars Classic Penticton

The 2024 Young Stars Classic is an annual event featuring the NHL teams from Western Canada including the Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers. The games will be played in the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, B.C. The event will also feature a BCHL preseason game including host Penticton Vees against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The BCHL game is scheduled to be streamed live on FloHockey.

Formerly one of the premier prospect tournaments on the calendar, featuring multiple NHL teams, this year will only include the prospects from the Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars playing twice. The games will take place at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, Mich., the longtime training camp home for the Red Wings.
