The first round of the 2024 NHL Draft is over and remaining rounds 2-7 will begin at 11:30 a.m. EST on June 29 in Las Vegas at the Sphere. 

The first round of the draft had several surprises, but not with the first pick. The San Jose Sharks selected Macklin Celebrini at No. 1, which has been a foregone conclusion since the Sharks won the NHL Draft Lottery in the spring.

But when the Anaheim Ducks took Beckett Sennecke with the third pick, the rest of the top 10 seemed to be thrown for a loop. Sennecke and No. 6 pick Tij Iginla of the Utah Hockey Club were some of the biggest surprises of Round 1. 

There were also a lot of trades that impacted the remaining rounds. The second round will kickoff with the Sharks, who had the No. 33 pick due to the club owning the worst record in the NHL this past season.
