The Montreal Canadiens have the No. 5 and No. 26 picks in the 2024 NHL Draft and will add to their list of notable first round selections, which include the first player ever drafted into the NHL.
In the first NHL Draft in 1963, the Canadiens picked Garry Monahan as their first-ever first round pick and took him No. 1. He was 16 at the time and from Barrie, Ontario, Canada. He played just 14 games for Montreal.
Throughout their history, the Canadiens have had the No. 1 pick six times, most in NHL history. The most successful of those No. 1 picks was Guy Lafleur in 1971. One of the greatest players in league history, Lafleur has a statue outside the Bell Centre in Montreal. He won five Stanley Cups for the Canadiens.
Most recently the team used a No. 1 pick to draft Juraj Slafkovský in 2022, who is expected to become a key player for the franchise.

In the 2023 NHL Draft, Montreal selected David Reinbacher, a promising defenseman projected to make a significant impact.
The Canadiens have a rich history of drafting key players who contribute to the team’s success, and Reinbacher is anticipated to follow in their footsteps. This year, FloHockey's Chris Peters has Ivan Demidov slated at No. 5 and Dean Letourneau at No. 26.
Here are all the Montreal first round picks in the NHL Draft.
