Macklin Celebrini is likely to hear his name early at the 2024 NHL Draft when the first round gets underway on June 28 in Las Vegas at the Sphere, but there is a bit uncertainty after that.

Luckily for the San Jose Sharks, who own the No. 1 pick, they probably don’t have to worry about that until pick No. 14.

The 2024 NHL Draft features several picks that are altered due to trades over the years. The Sharks own the No. 1 and No. 14 pick in the draft this year as a result of a trade last summer that landed them the Pittsburgh Penguins' first round pick. Pittsburgh wound up with Erick Karlsson in the three-team trade.

Here are all the trades that are impacting the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, including one that has been traded three times.

Ottawa Senators And The No. 7 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

This one is a bit tricky.

The Senators are drafting at No. 7 in the first round, but due to the Evgenii Dadonov trade, the Senators are forfeiting picks. The 2024 first round pick was one of the possible picks that could forfeit, but the decision was made that the Senators will keep the pick and will lose either the 2025 or 2026 trade, according to CapFriendly.

The Senators also made a trade in March 2023 involving this pick but it was top 10 protected. The Senators received Jakob Chychrun in exchange for last year’s No. 12 pick (Daniil But) and a conditional pick. So instead of the now Utah Hockey team getting this pick, they will get a 2024 second pick from Ottawa.

San Jose Sharks And The No. 14 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

Last year the Chicago Blackhawks had the No. 1 pick (Connor Bedard) and the No. 19 pick (Oliver Moore). The Sharks will also double-up.

They are very likely to take Boston University star Macklin Celebrini at No. 1. At No. 14, FloHockey analyst Chris Peters has the team taking defenseman Stian Solberg of Vallerenga in a mock draft.

Detroit Red Wings And The No. 15 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

The Red Wings included this pick in a July 2023 trade with the Senators involving Dominik Kubalik and Donovan Sebrango and the signing rights of Alex DeBrincat to the Red Wings. But the pick had conditions and they were able to keep it.

The Red Wings also owned the Boston Bruins' 2024 first round pick and had the option of either sending their own pick or the Bruins pick (unless that Boston pick landed in the top 10, which it didn’t).

So the Red Wings kept the higher pick.

Chicago Blackhawks And The No. 18 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

For the second year in a row, the Blackhawks will have two picks in the draft as they own the No. 2 pick and the New York Islanders first round pick, which landed at No. 18.

In a May 2024 trade, the Blackhawks acquired the No. 18 and No. 50 pick in the second round in exchange for the Tampa Bay Lightning’s No. 20 pick, the No. 54 pick and the No. 61 pick of the Los Angeles Kings and the Vancouver Canucks.

New York Islanders And The No. 20 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

The Lightning originally traded this pick to the Chicago Blackhawks in March 2022 for Brandon Hagel and two draft picks, a fourth round in 2022 (Kenny Connors) and fourth round pick in 2024 (the No. 99 pick).

The Blackhawks received last year’s No. 19 pick (Oliver Moore) along with Taylor Raddysh, Boris Katchouk and the conditional first round pick, which they subsequently traded to the Islanders.

Boston Bruins And The No. 25 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

What a journey this pick has made.

The Bruins traded this pick for Tyler Bertuzzi in March 2023 to the Red Wings. The Red Wings traded this pick last summer to the Senators.

And a few days before the draft, on June 24, 2024 the Senators traded this pick back to the Bruins for Linus Ullmark. Boston also received Joonas Korpisal and Mark Kastelic.

Montreal Canadiens And The No. 26 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

In a February 2024 trade, the Winnipeg Jets traded their 2024 first round pick and the 2027 third round pick with conditions in exchange for Sean Monahan.

Calgary Flames And The No. 28 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

The Flames traded Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks in January 2024. They received the signing rights to Joni Jurmo and Hunter Brzustewicz along with Andrei Kuzmenko as well as the No. 28 pick and a conditional pick that turned into the No. 107th pick.

Anaheim Ducks And The No. 31 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

Another pick that has been quite fluid and only decided after the Stanley Cup.

In a March 2024 trade, the Oilers acquired Sam Carrick and the No. 196 pick from Anaheim as well as Adam Henrique and the signing rights to Ty Taylor from Tampa Bay. The Lightning got a conditional 2025 fourth round pick. Had the Oilers won the Stanley Cup, that pick would have been a 2026 conditional pick.

Anaheim received the No. 31 pick from the Oilers and 2025 fifth round pick. The Ducks will now have two first round picks.

Philadelphia Flyers And the No. 32 Pick In The 2024 NHL Draft

Another pick that has been traded multiple times.

On March 16,  2022, the Panthers acquired Ben Chiarot from the Canadiens for Ty Smilanic and and two conditional picks, including the 2023 first round pick, which was top 10 protected. Had that pick been in the top 10, Montreal would have gotten the 2024 first round pick. But the Panthers were able to keep their 2024 first round pick.

However, three days later on March 19, 2022, Florida traded this pick to the Flyers. Had it been protected, Philadelphia would have received the Panthers' 2025 first round pick.

Conditions were not met.

The Panthers received Claude Giroux, German Rubtsov, Connor Bunnaman and a 2024 5th round pick (which is No. 141 this year). The Flyers got this pick, a 2023 third round pick they used on Denver Barkey and Owen Tippett.
