The San Jose Sharks, established in 1991, have a notable draft history. Their first-ever first-round pick was Pat Falloon, selected second overall in the 1991 NHL Draft. '

Falloon was anticipated to be a key player for the fledgling franchise, showing early promise with a 59-point rookie season. However, his career did not reach the expected heights.

Throughout their history, the Sharks have never had the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL Draft. This will change in 2024, as the Sharks have secured the No. 1 pick for the first time.

And they will make their pick on at 7 p.m. on June 28 in Las Vegas at the 2024 NHL Draft with all signs pointing to No. 1 prospect Macklin Celebrini going No.1.

While the Sharks have never had the No. 1 pick before, they have drafted second overall three times and in the top five overall six times.

Despite not having top picks in the past, they have managed to build competitive rosters through astute drafting and player development. Notable first-round picks include Patrick Marleau, selected second overall in 1997, who became the franchise’s all-time leader in games played and points.

Marleau, from Aneroid Saskatchewan, helped the Sharks reach the Stanley Cup Finals nearly 19 years later in 2016.

Will the No.1 pick in 2024 help the Sharks return to the NHL Playoffs for the first time since 2019? Only time will tell. Here's a look at every San Jose Shark first round pick.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name? San Jose Sharks Could Have Boston Feeling

In 2023, the Sharks owned the No. 4 pick and took Will Smith from Boston College. Smith, from Massachusetts, played for BC this past season and was a Hobey Baker Award finalist. The 19-year-old was named the Sharks' 2023-2024 prospect of the year.

Celebrini, from Canada, played for BC's rival, Boston University.
