The Bison in the team’s logo dons a stovepipe hat similar to the one famously worn by Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States who made his home in nearby Springfield, Illinois.
A formal news conference announcing the new club is due to be held at 1 p.m. CT Wednesday in Bloomington at the Grossinger Motors Arena, which will be the team’s home.
The ECHL granted Bloomington expansion membership at its most recent board of governors meeting following the ECHL All-Star Classic in Savannah, Georgia. The new team is owned by Hallett Sports and Entertainment, which also owns the ECHL’s Indy Fuel.
