SPHL Rebrands And Introduces Special Anniversary Season Logo

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) is entering a new era. Effective immediately, the league will simply be known as the SPHL.

The SPHL announced the rebrand on Tuesday and it represents a similar change made by the ECHL 20 years ago.

“Similar to what the ECHL did in changing from the East Coast Hockey League, our continued success and expansion outside of the original footprint of the league has allowed the hockey world to recognize us simply as ‘the SPHL’,” Commissioner Doug Price said in a release.

The original SPHL logo will be slightly adjusted to remove the words "Southern Professional Hockey League." The league made the decision because in recent years it has included teams in the southeast and the midwest.

The 2023-24 season will be a milestone one for the SPHL as it celebrates its 20th anniversary, and the league revealed a commemorative logo that will be used during the season.

Former Fayetteville Marksmen broadcaster Drew Blevins submitted the design for the special logo after the team staff throughout the league submitted ideas for consideration.

“It’s an honor to have my logo selected for the SPHL’s 20th anniversary season,” Blevins said in a release. “Being from North Carolina and having the chance to have one of my designs represent such a momentous occasion for the league and its teams is incredibly special, and I’m excited to see it take on a life of its own through the course of the year.”

The SPHL broadcasts will move to FloHockey this season.
